My Father's War

film by Emil Novák | 50 min | documentary film | (2026)
Story: Dr. Emil Novák was a Hungarian doctor who lived in the first half of the 20th century and practiced in the Kalocsa district. As a fresh graduate, he rented a small palace in Kalocsa, and although he was a Lutheran, he also became a member of the bishop's palace. The happy period lasted a few months, because he received a draft and, as a medical ensign, set off for the Don Bend with the 2nd Hungarian Army. He took his cello with him to the front and tried to alleviate the horrors of war with his musical talent. He enlisted in the 51st Tank Destroyer Battalion and became the battalion's doctor with the rank of reserve ensign.
