Story: Rome in the I. century AD, the most important European site of a century so rich in controversy. It could be called the "century of the split", i.e. this is the end of the old Europe and the birth of the new. This 6-part educational film, with the help of a series of lectures by the author, provides a historical, cultural and literary background to the novel Captivity by György Spiró. The novel is set in the 1st century. The protagonist is Uri, a boy with poor eyesight who lives in Rome and is unable to do manual work. Uri mysteriously becomes part of a delegation carrying the offering money from Rome to Jerusalem. Uri travels from Jerusalem to Judea and then to Alexandria. 2 years after his departure, he returns to Rome. The years then begin to pass more quickly, and by the end of the novel Uri is an old man.
